Christmas

Are you ready?
We have had a nice dusting of snow, the presents are wrapped, the fridge is stocked and I have accomplished everything on my list, so it's time to relax.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and all the best for 2014!
Thanks so much for reading this little blog, I appreciate it!

High/Low Rustic Wreath

High Wreaths:Pottery Barn/Williams Sonoma

For the last couple of years I have made a fresh wreath for our front door. Wreaths can be very expensive, so I have come up with an easy and inexpensive alternative.

Take a $15.00 wreath from Costco...remove the bow.

Buy a bunch of magnolia leaves at Walmart for $4.77. Snap the bunch into smaller bunches.

Get out your trusty glue gun and glue up the ends of the magnolia and then shove ends into wreath making sure the leaves go in the same direction as greenery. So simple! If you don't have a glue gun run out to your local dollar store and get one now. Be careful not to burn yourself, or ruin your manicure.

Then run outside with scissors (actually don't run with scissors) and cut anything green.
Your neighbours won't mind.
Cut up green thing into smaller pieces and glue ends and shove into wreath.

And this is what you get!!
I was very tempted to bling it out with red balls and sparkly ribbon, but I resisted the temptation and went with the rustic look. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Now go and make one and send me a photo, I would love to see your creations!

At Our House

Here's a little glimpse into what is happening at our house this Christmas. I have purposely kept the decorations simple because our house is for sale and I didn't want it to look cluttered or overdone.

Having a house for sale at this time of year is both good and bad. The good news is that the house looks very pretty with twinkling lights and fresh greenery. The bad news is that you have people traipsing through for showings and open houses so the house always has to be in perfect order even with all the baking, wrapping and entertaining that goes on during December.

An offer came in that we are in the process of negotiating so hopefully we will have a sold sign out front in the next few days. I will be super relieved if all goes well as I am getting a little tired of keeping the house like a show home. If we sell I am going to go "all lazy" for a few days and leave the beds unmade, underwear on the floor and I might even do something really crazy like cook fish!!

I love these funny little snowmen that my son bought for me a few years ago at his school Christmas shop.

Another favourite decoration made by one of the boys. The little hat made from a newborn sock is adorable.

Turn a tube sock inside out and add about a cup of dried beans to toe and then fill with cotton batting.
Tie off top with a piece of string and hot glue on a baby sock and pom pom for hat.
Tie neck with ribbon or strip of fabric.
Glue on carrot nose made from felt and make eyes and mouth with a sharpie.
Glue on buttons.

 Family room mantle.
The snowmen are hand made and each one is wearing a coat made from sheep's wool with cranberry buttons.

Eating way too much sweet stuff, but mmm, these were goooood.

It's December!

Now that it is December I have started to do a little decorating around the house. My problem is that I love all different styles of Christmas decorations and have a hard time using what I have and not changing out my look every year. I really can't justify buying new bobbles just because I am inundated with gorgeous things in the shops right now. To satisfy my need for a new look I usually change up my Christmas table each year. It's easy to go with a new colour or theme or to buy a few new things with out breaking the bank.

How do you decorate your house for Christmas?        I would love to know.

Here are some of my favourite looks...

I love everything about this table!

Hope everyone is having a great day and happy December :) :)
