Modern Cottage

I just love this property. If you are on Pinterest I am sure you have seen at least a couple of photos from this Charleston S.C. bungalow designed by Jen Langston. I was pinning it to my "Modern Cottage" board and thought I would share it with you. The home has a unique feel with a successful combination of tropical style, classic finishes and modern decor. The indoor-outdoor living, palm trees and the texture from sisal rugs and rattan furniture are a nod to island living. The oak barn doors, the pale hand scraped hardwood floors and the ship lapped paneling throughout the main living areas help to warm up the space. My favourite part is the outdoor living area; the fireplace, kitchen, pool and outdoor shower make it a perfect home for entertaining.

Cottage Design

It's snowing here right now!

I am just not ready for winter, quite yet.
I should be thinking of practical snow related things.
Where are the shovels?
I need snow tires!
Who's turn is it to shovel the driveway?
Where did I stash all the hats and mitts?
But...
I can't because I am surfing the net for pretty pictures of cottages.
We are thinking of building a small cottage on a lot we have owned for a few years in Nova Scotia.
We want something affordable (cheap would be nice) and appropriate for renting out most of the time.
There is nothing I like better than coming up with plans, especially if it involves solving a problem or two.
My main goal was to incorporate everything we wanted all within a fairly small foot print.
Here's what I am thinking...

I would love to do something a little more modern, but because it is on a private road we need to keep the exterior design in keeping with the existing cottages, some of which are 100 years old.

I came across this Portland home in the New York Times owned by Brian Faherty owner of Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co.
I really like his use of horizontal shiplap paneling and all that barn board is amazing. Thinking I might have to steal a few ideas!

Beachside Home

I have a hard time resisting a good beach home tour. This Cohasset Massachusetts seaside residence is designed by Katie Rosenfeld Design. It's full of crisp white woodwork, a variety of blue tones combined with unique touches of coral. My favourite parts are the all white kitchen with the subtle aqua tiles and that daring coral front door!

Cottage Design

It seems that every year in the spring time I start dreaming about cottage design. This renovated Australian cottage designed by Connor and Solomon Architects is everything I am loving right now. The combination of the classic and casual blue exterior paired with the crisp white and modern interior is perfect. I really like how the indoor spaces flow out and seamlessly merge with the deck. It's an excellent example of a relaxed, family friendly cottage.
